X-Men Legacy #11 Review

As much as the current volume of X-Men Legacy offers a fresh start for both readers and central protagonist David Haller, it does still build from the foundation laid out by the previous volume. That quality becomes more apparent in issue #11 as Simon Spurrier starts to reference previous characters and conflicts more closely. There’s even a sense that the series might regain some of the ensemble focus that disappeared with the relaunch.

Wrestling Wrap Up: Triple H Feels Dizzy, Collapses

Okay, so I’m going to try and write this Wrap Up quickly as there may be some hatches around the homestead that needed battening down later on. Apparently, only having moved to the Dallas area last summer, there are these things called tornados that drop down from above and roll toward you like bowling balls. Oh, and your house and everyone you love is the pin. So forgive the rushed effort. I don’t expect anything as horrible as the tragedy that befell Moore, Oklahoma yesterday, but I need to stay alert. As natural disasters go, having come from Los Angeles, I’m still on the fence about whether or not it’s better to just have calamity strike out of nowhere or if it’s better to live in abject terror for days. In the end, I suppose I’m just anti-sucky s*** happening to people.

New Girl: Season 2 Review

Warning: Full spoilers from New Girl: Season 2 to follow.

For any show entering its second season, there’s always the looming pressure of a “sophomore slump.” And after New Girl’s somewhat disheartening Season 1 finale, there was some concern about what direction the show would take. Thankfully, the FOX comedy returned with a rousing Season 2 premiere that quickly turned things around for Jess and the gang, while also introducing some pretty big changes: Jess had lost her job, Schmidt and Cece were still on the rocks, and Nick had begun writing his epic love story Z is for Zombie.

Lindelof Sorry for Alice Eve's Trek Underwear Scene

Screenwriter Damon Lindelof has tweeted his apology to fans offended by Carol Marcus’ underwear scene in Star Trek Into Darkness.

Marcus, played by Alice Eve, is the only other major female character in the film besides Zoe Saldana’s Uhura. Many female viewers and Trek fans have expressed their displeasure at what they feel was the filmmakers reducing the brilliant scientist to sexual objectification in the scene.

Defiance: "Brothers in Arms" Review

Warning: full episode spoilers follow.

Defiance kept up its usual trend with this week’s episode, as after an episode focused more on the secondary cast it once again shifted back to the likes of Sheriff Nolan and Datak Tarr. It didn’t exactly do much to address the problem of underdeveloped supporting characters, even though it initially seemed that Doc Yewll might finally be stepping into the spotlight. That didn’t pan out, but once the episode cleared a few hurdles it proved to be an enjoyable enough look into Nolan’s past deeds and current relationships.

The premise of “Brothers in Arms” was familiar enough, as Nolan had the chance to team up with an old buddy/mentor from his past. Anytime this happens in serialized police dramas like Law & Order, you can predict pretty much exactly how the episode will play out. The two lawmen will have fun busting heads, but eventually the pressure of a case will splinter their friendship and the mentor’s true colors will reveal themselves, forcing an unhappy showdown in the climax. And in a broad sense that was pretty much what unfolded here. However, Eddie (Rob Stewart) was written with enough nuance that he rarely felt like a simple stereotype. In particular, the way he took his “Uncle Eddie” relationship with Irisa seriously was endearing (even if she didn’t think so). So it was that, even though the episode ultimately revealed that Eddie’s hands were dirty and he had conspired to help Pol Madis escape Nolan’s custody for the sake of his bounty, his willingness to sacrifice his own freedom for the sake of Irisa made him a very sympathetic character indeed.

Five of Call of Duty: Black Ops II’s Best Maps

With the new Call of Duty: Black Ops II Uprising DLC now available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, fans of the multiplayer side of the game are truly spoiled for choice. So what are the most memorable Black Ops II maps? The ones that keep CoDers coming back for more month in, month out, eternally mashing that ‘replay map’ option? Here are our picks for the top five, in no particular order…

Long-range, sniper-rifle-loving players best gloss over this option, as it’s a dish best served with a side of buckshot from a point-running shotgun surgeon. Set in a rundown part of Panama City that certainly wasn’t the inspiration for the Van Halen song, you’ll want to switch to a close-quarters kit if you hope to make your enemies scream louder than David Lee Roth’s oft-quoted falsetto-chorus Pan-a-ma. At least that particular reference is in line with the ‘80s setting of the map; to date, the only Black Ops II map to borrow from the greatest time period for rock, action movies and the warming up of cold wars.
